The Gandershan Tunnel is located in Wuhai City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, with a total length of 12.095 kilometers, making it the longest tunnel along the Baotou-Yinchuan High-Speed Railway. The tunnel has a maximum depth of approximately 294.4 meters, crosses 17 fault fracture zones, and is mostly situated in gently inclined rock strata, presenting significant construction challenges.

The Baotou-Yinchuan High-Speed Railway has a total length of 519 kilometers, including 402 kilometers within Inner Mongolia, with a designed speed of 250 kilometers per hour. Once completed, the travel time between Baotou and Yinchuan will be reduced from over six hours to just two, making it the fastest route for western Inner Mongolia, Ningxia, and other northwestern regions to Beijing. This project will significantly enhance passenger transport in these regions, improve the national high-speed railway network, and optimize the comprehensive transportation system of the Beijing-Lanzhou Corridor.
