Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge

China Railway Major Bridge Engineering Group Co., Ltd (hereinafter referred to as MBEC), as China National Bridge Construction Team, constructed the Section No.CB05 of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge. In the three civil engineering sections of bridge construction, Section No.CB05 has the largest amount of construction and the most complicated structure. This section includes construction of Jiuzhou Channel Bridge, non-navigational viaduct and link bridge at Zhuhai River Mouth, interchanges etc. Jiuzhou Channel Bridge is a double-pylon single-cable-panel steel-concrete composite cable-stayed bridge with a main pylon of 120m high. The length of Jiuzhou Channel Bridge is 693m with a ¡°sail¡± shape.

The Section CB05 is 6.653 kilometers long in total. Under the complicated geological condition, bad sea environment and changeable climate, MBEC took the lead in completing the main work of the nearest section of the bridge from Zhuhai in only two years and eight months. It refreshes the speed of construction for sea-crossing bridge in China and demonstrates the strength of bridge construction in China.

In the construction process, the pile cap and the pier shaft were cast and installed in one time, which made the prefabricated cap and pier shaft solid inside and beautiful appearance, and improved the installation accuracy than cast-in-place construction. The tower column construction adopts the one-time vertical rotation method to install in place, effectively overcomes the shortcoming of the traditional construction technology and becomes the first domestic bridge using vertical rotation method on the main steel pylon. The double-wall steel cofferdam with locking mouth is also used for the first time in China. The cofferdam can be lowered, installed and withdrew either integrally or in segments.  

Furthermore, MBEC has actively carried out environmental studies and practice in construction, and has not caused any "nuisance" to the Chinese white dolphin, a national first-class protected animal in the nearby waters.

In addition to its core technology, China Railway Group Limited has advanced equipment, as ¡°Tianyi¡± Barge-mounted Crane for Bridge Girder Erection with lifting capacity of 3000 tons, ¡°Small Swan¡± Barge-Mounted Crane for Bridge Girder Erection with lifting capacity 2500 tons, ¡°Bridge Haitian¡± batching plant barge etc.
